If you’re one of the 5 million Leap Year babies across the planet, February 29th will soon arrive and you have Julius Caesar to thank.  According to the Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies, it was the Roman Empire dictator and general who proclaimed every fourth year a Leap Year.
 
The Romans figured that it takes a slight bit longer than 365 days for the Earth to rotate the Sun (365.2421 days actually), so to make sure we are consistent with the true astronomical year, a day is added every fourth year to get the calendar back in sync with the movement of the planet.
